When it comes to natural healing the options are seemingly endless. From plant based medicines to minerals, to spring water and even dirt, it seems every natural substance can be used in some way. But rocks and gems? Is it really possible that something seemingly inanimate can bring healing to our bodies? Many believe the answer to this question is yes.

Throughout history, just about every culture has employed crystals and gems in healing practices. Egyptians wore them for protection and power and Indians wore them to ward off negative energy. Mayans used them to diagnose and treat diseases and prehistoric Irish used them to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual balance.

It’s All About Vibration

Albert Einstein said everything in life is vibration. Everything consists of energy and has a unique vibrational frequency. Taking this a bit farther, imagine that each cell in your body has its own frequency. When cells are healthy and functioning properly, they vibrate at a specific frequency. Likewise, when cells are unwell, their frequency slows down. The sicker we are, the lower our overall frequency.

Crystals, like our living cells, vibrate at different frequencies depending on their matter, size, thickness, and color (light frequency). These frequencies, called phonons, have the ability to communicate and alter the frequency of living cells in our bodies.

The light energy of crystals varies, from low frequencies, needed for physical balance, to very high frequencies, needed for spiritual work. They can help balance our energy field and bring about a state of order in the body. When our energy field functions in a healthy vibrational frequency it urges the physical body to return to a healthy state as well.

Basically, when any of our systems are out of balance, it compromises our health. Because crystals can act as electromagnetic distributors, they bring balance to body systems.

Let’s look at some specific crystals and their unique abilities to promote healing.

Amethyst

Amethyst has been valued throughout history as a stone that brings detoxification. It helps bring the crown chakra, or energy center, into balance. Consequently, it encourages consciousness and spiritual connection. Amethyst is sometimes used to overcome addictions and stress. It also possesses an ability to soothe the mind and emotions.

Tiger’s Eye

Also known as the Golden Ray, tiger’s eye is  believed to bring prosperity, good fortune, and to inspire courage. This stone balances the third eye chakra, thereby encouraging creativity, vision, and dreaming. Some people believe wearing tiger’s eye combats procrastination and provides clarity for difficult situations and conflicts.

Blue Lace Agate

This light blue stone provides emotional encouragement and support. It is calming, uplifting, and elevating to the spirit. Blue lace agate balances the throat chakra, which may promote clear communication, clarity of thought, understanding, and confidence. Additionally, agate can encourage the releasing of repressed emotional issues. Many people feel that agate has an anti-depressant quality.

Rose Quartz

Rose quartz appeals to the heart chakra, dissolving emotional wounds, fears, and resentments. Reawakening the heart brings a deep sense of personal fulfillment and contentment. Opening the heart allows one the capacity to truly give and receive love from others. This stone also encourages compassion, empathy, forgiveness, and a desire to resolve conflict peacefully.

Citrine

Citrine transmutes, dissipates, and grounds negative energy. It corresponds to the solar plexus chakra in the center of the chest. Some people say citrine carries the power of the sun and is the primary stone of imagination and personal will. Wearing this stone may help bring self awareness and assertiveness.

Carnelian

The ancient Egyptians called carnelian “the setting sun” and wore this stone to enhance passion, love, and desire. It balances the sacral chakra, which is associated with sexuality and relationships, as well as creativity. Carnelian may help with completion of projects and increase an overall sense of satisfaction and joy in one’s life. Wearing carnelian is useful for making decisions by keeping one focused on the present and not on past experiences. Carnelian calms anger and grounds you in reality, while encouraging initiative and determination.

Physically, carnelian may relieve symptoms of PMS and menopause, as well as assisting in the areas of fertility and potency.

Hematite

Hematite absorbs negative energy and calms in times of stress or worry. It is a very protective stone that grounds, balances, and detoxifies. It is good for working on all chakras, but especially the root chakra. Carry hematite when you are seeking balance and equilibrium or to overcome difficulty focusing your energies. Hematite may also strengthen self-confidence and enhance meditation practices. Physically, hematite is a great detoxifying stone, helpful for the liver and the blood.
