After Workout Balm

Fair warning, all I have done for over a month is restorative yoga. If you don’t know about restorative yoga, it is basically like laying in 4 different positions for 15 minutes each. It’s the greatest yoga ever, and this is the greatest after workout balm ever.

Even if you don’t spend your days in a gym, walking, shopping, kiddos, and life can take a toll on your muscles. Get your massage on with this easy DIY no matter how simple or complex your workout.

This is my absolute favorite after workout balm, and all of the essential oils are simple ones that most people have! Don’t like the strong wintergreen and peppermint aroma? Add in some lavender to tone down and harmonize the aromas.

Once it hardens, you don’t have to store this balm in the refrigerator unless you live in a very hot environment that may melt the coconut oil. But if it does happen to melt, don’t worry, you can always throw it back in the fridge.

Ingredients

8 oz. coconut oil

10 drops wintergreen essential oil

10 drops copaiba essential oil

5 drops peppermint essential oil

Instructions

Melt coconut oil over medium heat. Once melted, remove from heat and add essential oils. Harden in fridge. Rub liberally on sore muscles after exercise.

Activated Charcoal Mask

A good activated charcoal mask is one of my very favorite ways to cleanse and detox my skin. Activated charcoal can help to minimize the appearance of pores, remove oils and debris, and may even help to reduce the appearance of acne. This activated charcoal mask is deeply cleansing and purifying so it is perfect for oily skin, teenage skin, or skin like mine that braves the elements in the city.

But What About Bentonite Clay?

Bentonite clay is another exceptionally good absorptive agent. Bentonite clay helps to unclog and shrink the appearance of pores. It also reduces overproduction of oil and sebum on the skin, so it’s the perfect ingredient in a mask for oily skin.

Additionally, this clay absorbs toxins from the skin. It has a a gentle exfoliating effect that can brighten the skin. This also helps to even out the skin tone and generate growth of new skin.

So Here’s the Recipe for the Activated Charcoal Mask

Ingredients

1/2 cup water

1/4 cup bentonite clay

1/4 cup activated charcoal

10 drops cedarwood essential oil

5 drops peppermint essential oil

3 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, SLOWLY mix all the ingredients together. This mask makes a mess, especially if you’re not careful, so make sure to stir slowly until you achieve a paste-like consistency.
  2. Apply mask to face, and then allow to dry. Rinse with water and a wash cloth. Use once per week.

Pumpkin Mask

Why Pumpkin?

Did you know that pumpkin is packed with fruit enzymes and alpha hydroxy acids that increase cell turnover, leaving the skin brighter and smoother? Or that pumpkin has vitamins A and C that soften and smooth the skin and may boost collagen production? Pumpkin has a small chemical structure that penetrates deep into the skin, bringing all of the benefits with it. This makes pumpkin the perfect ingredient for a face mask

Worried about acne? Pumpkin seeds are a delicious source of zinc, which regulates hormone levels and controls oil on the skin. They also contain vitamin E and essential fatty acids, which are necessary to maintain the skin barrier function and regulate oily output. That’s why this pumpkin mask is a must this fall.

Trust me on this DIY. You have never had such buttery soft and smooth skin. Are you going to try it? Here’s to fall, y’all!

Ingredients

4 tablespoons pumpkin purée

4 tablespoons raw honey

8 drops copaiba essential oil

4 drops orange essential oil

Instructions

Whisk all ingredients together, and store in 4 oz. jar.

To use pumpkin mask, spread a small amount on face and neck. Allow to soak for 10 minutes before washing off.
